Because hibernation is more than just a nap.

Our Mission

For decades, the American education system has misled generations of children into believing that bears hibernate by simply sleeping for months on end. The truth? Bears are not unconscious. They are resting, conserving energy, and—if given the chance—capable of achieving incredible things.

The Bears With Tablets Foundation was created to correct this widespread misinformation and to provide under-resourced bears with the tools they need to thrive during hibernation.

Imagine a bear in a den with a tablet—accessing yoga tutorials, learning sourdough starters, maybe even keeping that Duolingo streak going.
The possibilities are endless.

The American school system teaches that bears sleep all winter—we’re here to expose that lie.

Why Bears? Why Tablets?

The Myth: “Bears sleep all winter.” (Still being taught in 87% of American classrooms, according to Definitely Real Research Institute, 2024).

The Truth: Bears remain semi-conscious during hibernation, their bodies regulating temperature, metabolism, and heart rate in fascinating ways.

The Problem: Society still stereotypes bears as “lazy” or “checked out.”

Our Solution: With tablets, bears can unlock their untapped potential while hibernating—whether that’s online courses, breathwork apps, or mastering Canva.

Our Vision

We envision a world where every bear in hibernation is empowered with digital access. From a cozy den in Montana to the snowy mountains of Alaska, each bear deserves the opportunity to:

  • Stream Great British Bake Off for emotional regulation

  • Attend virtual therapy (because being misunderstood for centuries takes a toll)

  • Order enrichment tools via Amazon Prime (cave delivery available in some regions)

“When I first learned that bears weren’t actually sleeping through hibernation, I felt betrayed by my elementary science textbooks. Then I felt inspired. Imagine what these creatures could accomplish if given just one iPad with decent Wi-Fi. That’s when the Bears With Tablets Foundation was born.“

Our Process

At Bears with Tablets Foundation, we believe every bear deserves enrichment during hibernation. Our process is simple, sustainable, and paws-itively impactful:

Identify the Dens

We work with local wildlife trackers, conservationists, and “forest gossip networks” to locate dens in need. Priority goes to bears without reliable access to Wi-Fi or with outdated enrichment (e.g., pinecones).

Deliver the Tech

Each bear receives a ruggedized, paw-friendly tablet preloaded with apps for yoga, recipes, meditation, and “Denflix Originals.” Devices are delivered discreetly by our volunteer courier raccoons to avoid human interference.

Support & Sustain

We provide ongoing technical support with our “Hiber-Help Desk” and regular check-ins throughout the winter months. After hibernation, we gather bear feedback, upgrade tablets, and prepare for next season’s den deliveries.
